Scosche BoomCan ups your mobile device's sound for $25, annoys anyone near you

Sure, you could use the built-in speaker on your tablet or cellphone to crank your tunes on the bus or at the office, but Scosche's BoomCan may be the ticket for those looking to pump out a bit more volume. It's not wireless like some other options, but twenty-five smackers gets you a 2 x 2.5-inch aluminum Can loaded with a 40mm driver, an audio / USB charging cable and a pouch for scratch-free traveling. You'll have seven hours to rock on its internal battery, and although any chance of stereo separation looks pretty slim, you'll be able to daisy chain a few of them together for a mini rig. The BoomCan is up for order now at Scosche's website in red, blue, black or silver if you haven't heard of the breakthrough in portable sound technology known as headphones. Full PR past the break.

IPhone 5 pre-orders said to begin September 30th ahead of October 7th launch

Apple will begin taking pre-orders for its new iPhone 5 smartphone on September 30th, with a launch set to occur one week later on October 7th. Apple watcher 9to5 Mac claims to have confirmed the dates with multiple sources, though it does say Apple is currently deciding between two launch dates, October 7th and October 14th. The report also says Apple is mulling September 29th as the date pre-order availability will begin, though one source says the 30th is more likely. TiBp reported last week that Apple will launch its next-generation iPhone handset on October 7th, so this is the second time we've seen the date mentioned. TiBp also stated in the same report that Apple's iPad 3 will not launch until next spring, as opposed to this fall or winter as had been previously reported.

New images of alleged iPhone 5 parts surface

Several alleged internal components from Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 have surfaced on websites belonging to two different online parts suppliers. As reported by MacPost, purported OEM camera lens replacement modules, OEM headphone jacks and other parts now appear on websites belonging to Chinese parts suppliers TVC-Mall and Truesupplier, further suggesting that a launch of Apple's fifth-generation iPhone is not far off. Genuine iPhone parts have historically appeared on websites belonging to Chinese parts suppliers ahead of launch, and while not much can be gleaned from examining the parts, their emergence follows a pattern that has historically lead to a new device launch. More images of alleged iPhone 5 parts follow below.

XD

LinkedIn overhauls its iPhone app

LinkedIn has updated its iPhone app today to version 4.0. It's actually more than an update -- it's a complete overhaul of the app. Version 4.0 features a totally new UI with quick and easy access to four areas of LinkedIn: your profile, account updates, your inbox, and groups. Tap on any one of those area's icons (the icons change in realtime to display what you last viewed in that area) to further view your LinkedIn world.

The old LinkedIn app had one of the ugliest UIs of any social networking app. The new version has one of the most beautiful. Much of that beauty comes from its simplicity, which makes navigation a snap. Not only is the app much easier to navigate, it's also faster (even running on my iPhone 3G).

If LinkedIn can do this great a job on an iPhone app, I'm extra hopeful they've got an iPad app waiting in the wings. I spoke with some people from the company a few weeks ago and though they didn't confirm an iPad app was coming, they coyly said "Stay tuned."

LinkedIn 4.0 is available in the App Store now. It is a free download.

Looted iPhones hit Craigslist, Scosche debuts myTrek pulse sensor, Apple Store comes to Alaska

What appears to be an entire case of looted iPhones has turned up on Craigslist. Apparently, many of the mobile carrier stores in London where riots are happening have been looted.

Scosche has unveiled the myTrek pulse monitor for the iPhone. The monitor wraps around an arm and sends the pulse and other data to an app running on the iPhone.

Alaska is getting its first Apple Store. There are also other new stores set to open in other cities as well as new stores in other countries.

Apple iPhone 4 full of Samsung hardware, Apple 5th Ave store rendering, Smartphone Study from Harvar

Despite and tiffs between Apple and Samsung, the two are very intertwined in the iPhone 4. Apparently, a lot of the hardware inside the smartphone is Samsung sourced and more is coming.

Apple has offered up a rendering of its new Fifth Ave store in NYC and it looks really cool. The store has a seamless 32-foot glass cube in front.

A smartphoen "study" that has been published form people at Harvard looked at major smartphones including the iPhone. We call BS on the whole thing so check it out and see what you think.

iCloud iPhone rumor, 22 more fake Apple Stores in China, Apple patent shows integrated projectors

A new rumor has surfaced that says the other iPhone that launches along with the iPhone 5 will be an iCloud iPhone. The rumor claims that the device will use iCloud for most of its storage.

China has discovered a bunch of new fake Apple Stores. Apparently, there are 22 more fakes in the country and I doubt any of us are surprised.

A new patent app has surfaced that shows all sorts of Apple gear with integrated projectors. The iPhone and iPad are among the devices on the app.

HTC sues Apple again, iPhone 5 September 12 launch rumor, another fake Apple Store in China

Apple has been sued again for allegedly violating patents owned by HTC. The suit alleges that Apple is infringing on three patents that HTC owns with tech inside the iPhone and iPad as well as iPod and Mac notebooks.

Rumors claim that the iPhone 5 will launch on September 12 but the iPad 2011 launch rumor has changed. The iPad 3 won't launch this year according to the sources.

Another legitimate looking fake Apple store has been found in China. This one is two stories and apparently sells black iPhones modded to be white for $110 more.

4G LTE iPhone?

Apple to boost iPhone orders to 56 million for second half of 2011

Apple may be expecting a banner second half of the year for the iPhone. According to a report by Digitimes, Apple has boosted its orders for iPhone models from 50 million to 56 million units with the iPhone 5 accounting for almost half of this order. The bulk of the iPhone 5 orders will be shipped in Q4 2011 with 20 million units flying off the production line. Apple has asked for 5 million units in Q3 2011, a lower figure that points to a launch date late in that quarter. This 12% jump could push iPhone shipments to 95 million units for the year.

First Look: Time Travel eXplorer brings old London to life

When you're visiting a city, don't you sometimes wonder what it looked like in past centuries? That's the premise behind Time Travel eXplorer - London, a new iPhone travel guide app from Visick Solutions, Ltd. currently on the What's Hot page of the UK App Store. There's a good reason for that popularity, since Time Travel eXplorer is a fascinating way to take a tour of London both in the present day and in the past.

No, the developers didn't figure out a way to integrate the iPhone with a DeLorean or power it with a Mr. Fusion. What the app does provide is maps with 750 points of interest, as well as 1,500 photos and 150 audio guides that are bundled into the app so that you don't have to rely on a cell phone signal to take advantage of them. The tour information is provided by qualified Blue Badge guides, so you're getting accurate and interesting information.

The time travel bit comes in with maps of London from 1862, 1830, 1799, and 1746. The base Time Travel eXplorer - London app (US$2.99) includes a demo map from 1862, and you can do in-app purchases of the old maps in their entirety for a few bucks per map. Alternatively, you can buy a Pro version of TTX ($8.99) that includes all of the maps.

Apple's segmentation strategy and why it works

Here's a little interesting weekend reading from Mark Sigal on O'Reilly about "Apple's segmentation strategy." Sigal does a huge overview of Apple's direction over the last ten years, and in the end, argues that Apple has shirked the conventional wisdom of marketing products horizontally (making a special type of peanut butter for every customer, for example), and has instead segmented its products vertically (creating one product for a particular use case -- an iPad for reading, an iPod for listening, and an iPhone for apps). Apple is successful -- extremely successful, says Sigal -- not because it has become the biggest company in its various industries, but because it has thought carefully about how to sell products, and then sold them at exactly the right prices. And even when it's not right, says Sigal, Apple never makes a move that isn't strong and confident anyway. Even when the Apple TV is just a hobby, it's always just a hobby.

Sigal's point with all of this is that when Apple is doing what it does best -- targeting a specific market and overtaking it with quality -- the old rules of horizontal marketing and sales just don't apply. Apple is fine with not having the market share on smartphones, because it's not chasing those old goals. Apple doesn't add features or change products in a panic -- it added a camera to the iPod touch only when it was ready, and even then, it was careful not to make it better than the iPhone 4's camera and all of its selling points.

At any rate, Sigal's piece is a very interesting read. It's a little heavy for the weekend, maybe, but well worth going through to provide some insight on just why Apple remains so popular and profitable, even when other factors seem to rise against it.

TUAW iPhone Tips: Typing the Apple symbol, iOS 4 folders in the dock

As you go into this weekend looking for things to do, you might be thinking about how to organize your iOS 4.x iPhone and use the Apple symbol in the process.

The first tip, courtesy of Macenstein, deals with labeling of apps and folders. Back in the iPhone OS 2.x days, you could use the Japanese keyboard to type the Apple symbol. That feature disappeared, but now there's a way to bring back that Apple symbol.

The solution is to create a folder in iOS 4, which is done by dragging one app onto another. Give the folder a name, like "Rename me," then sync with your computer. With your iPhone selected in iTunes 10, click on the Apps tab. There you'll see all of your apps and folders, and you can double-click on the folder you just created to rename it. Use the Mac keyboard shortcut Option-Shift-K to type in the Apple symbol () and whatever else you want in the folder title, press Return to enter the change, and then click the Apply button to rename the folder on your iPhone. If you ever need to type an Apple symbol into another app, you can simply copy and paste it from the folder name.

Our second tip, from TUAW reader Adam, uses the obvious (but little-used) fact that you can put folders into the "dock" row of icons on your iPhone home screen. Why is that important? With one touch, you can have access to up to 12 of your favorite apps in the always-available dock row. Join the two tips together, and you can have an  Apps folder in your iPhone dock containing all of those Apple apps that you can't get rid of.

Captio: The simple app that just might change your life

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I have the worst memory. I also have a bad short-term memory. This makes it tough to remember the things that pop into my head throughout the day, and it makes it especially hard to keep track of tasks and other actions that I must take. I've wanted to use my iPhone to "bottle" these fleeting thoughts for years, but nothing on the App Store allowed me to do this without some sort of distraction.

Enter Captio, a new app from Ben Lenarts of Boonbits. It's a small note taking application that allows you to capture thoughts, ideas, tasks, and other tidbits of information as they come to you. You may say, "But there are a million of those apps on the store, Josh, you handsome man!" Given, but Captio has one killer feature that everyone else has failed to deliver on: nothing. For example, here's how it works:

Step 1: You open the app.

Step 2: You type what you need to remember.

And that's it. Your idea is in your email inbox. That's what makes Captio so great. You can add a quick photo before Captio whisks the idea out of your mind, but the feature is hidden quite well under the keyboard (as not to distract you). It's one fast app, too. I don't mean that in the same way that reviewers normally say it, either. Captio could outrun Usain Bolt strapped to a rocket cheetah. My iPhone 4 loads it from a cold start in about a second, and it's even quicker when loading from multitasking memory.

If you're looking for something to capture everything you need to remember (and capture it quickly), I highly recommend picking up Captio. It's available now on the App Store for a fantastic $0.99. Just be prepared to break the news gently to your iPod icon, though; he won't be happy to lose his spot on the dock.

Subnets

  • Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • 40 bit /104 bit WEP 加密
  • SSID
  • Bandwidth

iWork for iPhone來!

iWork, Apple’s productivity suite of applications that is available on Mac OS and the iPad, is coming to the iPhone very soon.

Rumors of iWork coming to the iPhone started when Apple, in one of its support documents for the iPhone, used a screenshot that showed a menu saying “open in Keynote.” That image was quickly replaced, but the rumor mill kept churning. ipodnn found a few fuzzy screenshots of iWork, but those were somewhat less than convincing.

A whole lot more convincing is the Pages walkthrough that 9 to 5 Mac posted, complete with 12 screenshots of various parts of the Pages interface. For the most part, it’s just a shrunken version of Pages: same wood-like toolbar, same document navigation and menus, same basic interaction. But there were a few new things, like wireless syncing of documents across your iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.

Pair the fantastic screen (and new Bluetooth keyboard capabilities) with a full-featured application like Pages, and the iPhone is a viable productivity device. At least, as long as you can resist playing Doodle Jump.

Samsung Galaxy S vs. iPhone 4

Super TFT LCD:
