We've known for awhile that Apple is seeking engineers to take the iOS Maps app to the next level so this latest job posting doesn't come as a surprise. According to the description, Apple is seeking an iOS Maps engineer that will work on "innovative features" and "sophisticated user interfaces." The post directly relates this to the iOS Maps app, proving yet again that club Cupertino has been developing Maps enhancements for quite a while.
It remains to be seen whether they're simply adding new features on top of the Google-provided mapping data or a developing a brand new solution that would see Apple license its own satellite imagery, turn-by-turn data and so forth. If anything, we now know for a fact that they're working on a crowd-sourced traffic service, which they claim is a few years away. Check out the full job posting bellow.
