Flutter app brings Kinect-like gesture controls to iTunes, Spotify [video]

Microsoft's wildly popular Kinect controller for the Xbox 360 brought motion-based controls to the masses when it launched in late 2010. While similar technology will be built into a variety of consumer electronics moving forward — especially HDTVs — Mac users now have access to a free app that will add gesture controls to their current OS X computers. Currently compatible with just two programs, iTunes and Spotify, the Flutter app for Mac allows users to control music and video playback by making hand gestures that are recorded and relayed by the PC's built-in iSight camera. The app is an early alpha build, yet we found that it performs as described and it worked well even from a few feet away. Flutter is not yet available in the Mac App Store, but it can be downloaded for free directly from Bot Square's website. A video showcasing the app follows below.

Apple's Tim Cook named most popular CEO of 2012

Glassdoor on Friday revealed its latest list of the "Top 25 Highest Rated CEOs of 2012." Apple's Tim Cook took the top spot with a 97% approval rating, leading Ernst & Young's Jim Turley, Qualcomm's Paul Jacobs and Google's Larry Page. "I think leadership is doing an amazing job," said one Apple employee. "We have the best management team anywhere." When Steve Jobs stepped down in August 2011, the late Apple co-founder garnered a cumulative approval rating of 97%, however Cook leads Jobs's rating of 95% from March 2010 to March 2011. While it has been a tough year for Hewlett-Packard, the company's new CEO Meg Whitman also made the list with an 80% approval rating, placing her in the No. 24 spot. Glassdoor bases the list entirely on feedback from anonymous employees who were asked one question — do they approve of the way their CEO is leading the company?

Bump Pay lets you tap a friend for cash

Taking cues from an ING Direct app that used its API, Bump Technologies has developed its own version of the mobile payments software, enabling phone-to-phone "Bump" transactions using PayPal. Yes, PayPal. That minor processing detail aside, the service appears to offer a fun solution for simplifying the fairly painful process of paying the check at group meals, or splitting a tank of gas with a friend. Both you and your bud need to have the app installed before you can beam that green, and there's no option to send payments remotely, though you could always use plain ole vanilla PayPal for that. The app is free, and if you have a checking account linked you won't have to deal with any fees. Bump Pay is iOS only "at launch" (read: it could be making its way to Android as well), so for now you'll need to bump the App Store to get folks paid.

iRiver B100 wants you to 'touch the supreme sound', pedants grumble

It's been some time since we heard much from iRiver but the PMP maker is keeping busy with the snow-white B100. This capacitive touchscreen media player will offer up to 36 hours of music playback, or eight and a half hours of video watching. The 3.1-inch TFT screen has a resolution of 320 x 480, but it's backed up by a (relatively) long list of media codecs, including OGG, WAV, APE and ASF compatibility. If you're sick of limited playback options, you might want to consider downscaling those screen-size desires for improved format freedom. The PMP launches today, with prices starting at 11,800 yen (around $144) for the 4GB model, while the 8GB version will set you back 13,800 yen (around $168) at online Japanese retailer, Rakuten. [消息] Apple II 經典遊戲「Prince of Persia」的原始碼終於被找回來了！

通常越是古老的程式或是遊戲，越是容易發生開發資料或是原始碼遺失的問題，其中之一就是大家（？）所熟悉的經典動作遊戲「Prince of Persia」。
Jordan Mechner是原版Prince of Persia的開發者之一，在過去數十年間他也不斷地在尋找Prince of Persia的原始碼，不過到目前為止都沒有任何發現。

直到幾天以前，他的老爹（同時也是幫原版Prince of Persia做音樂的傢伙）寄給他一箱從壁儲後面找到的舊遊戲。這箱遊戲中除了有一堆原版Karateka與Prince of Persia之外，還附帶有三個3.5"磁片盒。而這些磁片盒內，就是他過去一直在尋找的東西 ── Prince of Persia的原始碼。
目前Jordan Mechner打算將Prince of Persia的原始碼放到網路上公開，不過這也是要等他先有辦法把3.5吋的Apple ProDOS磁片丟到MacBook Air上，轉換成在21世紀能夠讀取的格式之後的事了……
