Tomb Raider Reboot Launches on App Store Today
// Mac|Life - All Articles
One of the biggest surprises in gaming last year was just how well Crystal Dynamics managed to update the Tomb Raider series. Drawing inspiration from the wonderful PS3 series Uncharted (itself inspired partly by Tomb Raider), the game shows us how Lara Croft morphed from an innocent university archaeologist to a walking weapon. And as of today, Mac gamers can experience the new Tomb Raider for themselves.
Pity, then, that it's not the flashy "Definitive Edition" that owners of PS4 and Xbox One consoles get to play. To get the same experience, you'll have to download a separate "DLC Collection" with all of Tomb Raider's downloadable content for $19.99, pushing the price for Mac players a little higher than their console cousins. Another catch: While the game is available on the Mac App Store right now for $49.99, that version is a tad inferior, since it doesn't allow access to Tomb Raider's multiplayer mode. For that, you'll have to pre-order it directly from Feral Interactive, which ported to the game to Mac, and which won't have it available until January 30. (You'll also need a Steam account to play multiplayer, and if that's not restrictive enough, you'll only be able to play with other Mac players.)
But at least we get to play it on Mac, right? If you need them, the minimum system requirements require a 2.0GHz Intel Mac with at least 4.0GB RAM, 512MB or better graphics card, and Mac OS 10.9.1 or later. Tomb Raider supports the following cards: AMD 4xxx series, Nvidia 6xx, Intel 4xxx series graphics card or greater.
