We're all expecting the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C at Apple's September 10 media event, but could Cupertino also be unveiling an updated (or entirely new) Apple TV at the same time?
GigaOM reported Tuesday that recent shipping information discovered by global trade service Panjiva suggests that Apple could be planning to introduce more than just new iPhones next week.
Using the original bill of lading data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Panjiva dug up three August shipments from Shenzhen, China to Apple said to contain "Set Top Boxes" or "Set Top Box with Communication Function," both of which sound a lot like the Apple TV.
Previous models of the Apple TV were built by Hon Hai, with the most recent version released in March, 2012. The August shipments were from BYD Precision Manufacture, suggesting that they could be an entirely new model presumably powered by the upcoming iOS 7.
The report notes that the Apple TV hardware has traditionally been refreshed every 377 days or so, making the current model "long overdue for a makeover" -- so make of that what you will.
