Dropbox for iOS Adds Automatic Upload with 3GB Free Space, Gallery View
If you're a Dropbox lover -- and who isn't? -- those crazy kids have just pushed out a new version of their free, universal app that budding photographers and fans of free space are going to love.
Dropbox has released version 1.5 of their iOS app, adding some most awesome features to the already pretty awesome cloud storage service.
The big news is that Dropbox users can now automatically upload photos and videos using either Wi-Fi or cellular data. This feature even works in the background when you leave the app, and those of us on capped data plans can switch off uploading via cellular data (in fact, it's disabled by default).
To celebrate the upload service, Dropbox is giving iOS users up to 3GB of extra free space, available in 500MB increments. Simply choose to automatically upload your images and once you've hit 500MB, that amount of extra space will be awarded to you. The free space will keep racking up until you've hit the 3GB limit.
So what can you do with all of those photos once they're uploaded? Dropbox 1.5 introduces a new Gallery view, which displays uploaded photos in grand iOS style.
Last but not least, sets of files can now be moved or deleted at once, and there's no limit on the size of files you can upload -- though you'll probably want to jack into AC power before uploading huge files, and of course you'll need an appropriately sized Dropbox plan to do so.
Dropbox 1.5 is now available from the App Store and it's free for all users; the app is compatible with all devices running iOS 4.0 or later.
