Golf GTI travels back in time
Volkswagen has transformed its 35th anniversary edition GTI into a 'Time Machine' to celebrate 35 years of the iconic hot hatch.
The modified Golf GTI 'Time Machine' appears in a new online campaign, launched to mark the availability of the latest Edition 35 model in the UK. The campaign sees the unique time travelling car disappearing back in time to revisit the brand's history.
The campaign begins with a viral film of an event celebrating 35 years of the Golf GTI. At this event the new Edition 35 was unveiled before a live audience by TV presenter and racing driver, Amanda Stretton. Spectators watched as two engineers clambered into the GTI 'time machine' and accelerated towards a wall, only to see it vanish in front of their very eyes and disappear into the past.
Through a series of updates - including videos, pictures and music - viewers can follow the Golf GTI 'Time Machine' as it takes a trip through the years. The first update shows the time-travelling car appearing at Volkswagen's Wolfsburg headquarters in 1976, to meet the engineers who created the first ever Golf GTI.
Fans of the Golf GTI can follow the time-traveller's adventures as they continue their 35 year journey by visiting the Volkswagen UK Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/VolkswagenUK.
