Free App Friday: Party Down

Admit it -- your friends think your parties are lame. It's alright, my parties were like that too, until I started renting ponies, throwing confetti and pouring endless bottles of champagne. Then everyone started showing up and my soirees were ones to be remembered. Now, you don't have to go all out like I did--go the cheaper route and enlist some free apps to get your party poppin'.

Mac

Virtual DJ

We've featured this app before, but it's so wonderful (and free!) that we can't help but feature it again. Virtual DJ is a fabulous (free!) DJing app that let's you create mash-ups and groovy playlists to get some dancing going at your party. But a word of caution: if you live in an apartment building, do practice some courtesy and keep the music low enough so your neighbor can fall asleep to his Columbo reruns. Then afterward, go for the gold and crank out your Ke$ha/Daft Punk remix. Because that's the only way any of us can stomach her music.

iPad/iPhone

Doodle Booth

You already share your photos on Twitter and Facebook from Instagram, but why not liven them up with this fun little camera app? Doodle Booth lets you snap a photo or upload an existing one and then customize it with "doodles", like caption boxes, frames and even drawn-on mustaches.

Mac

Social Media Sobriety Test

Because you're bound to drink -- and write a few bad tweets -- the Social Media Sobriety Test is a browser plug-in that will ensure you're lucid enough to use the internet. There are also mobile apps out there that do the same job, though none that we can find that were free (and if you find any, well, leave a comment!).

Follow this author's article, and her crazy social gathering (so crazy!) on Twitter.
