Audi Puts a Price on Beauty, 2012 A7 Will Start at $60,125

Audi's stunning A7 is almost here, and that means that pricing has landed—along with an online configurator. The entry-level A7 starts at $60,125, with more opulent trims commanding more coin.

For now, the A7 is only available with a single powertrain combination: the 3.0T Quattro with Tiptronic. Decoding the Ingolstadt-speak, that means the American-market A7 packs the company's supercharged 3.0-liter V-6—making 310 hp in this application—and power is routed to all four wheels through an eight-speed autobox. The A7  is rated for 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway by the EPA; the highway number in particular is impressive, and no doubt credit is due to the A7′s gearbox and substantial use of aluminum throughout the car.

All A7s will come standard with xenon headlights; LED running lights up front and tail lamps in the caboose; heated, 12-way power leather driver and passenger seats; keyless go; a power liftgate; and a sunroof. Next up the ladder, the $63,745 A7 Premium Plus adds parking sensors and satellite navigation, along with a buffet of infotainment features. At the top of the range, $66,455 buys an A7 Prestige, bringing front seats with even more adjustability, four-zone automatic climate control, an S-line sport trim pack, an upgraded sound system, and—yes, we're a bit surprised this is not standard on all trims, too—a power adjustable steering column.

In contrast, BMW's least-expensive all-wheel-drive 5-series GT begins at $59,675 and offers comparable power, but the BMW plays Rosie O'Donnell to the A7′s Christina Hendricks. In fact, despite the different configurations, we imagine many A7 shoppers will also be stopping by the Benz dealer to check out the similarly seductive CLS.

There's no question that the A7 offers a decent value for its segments—so much as any car at nearly 60 large can be a good value—but were we in the market, we'd be holding out for the hotter S7 version, which we expect will sport a turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, making well over 400 hp.
