iPad Pro Specs

For a few months now, we've seen a myriad of reports pointing to Apple releasing a 12.2-inch iPad Pro. As for a potential launch window, one of the more recent rumblings from the rumor mill suggests that production on the rumored iPad Pro won't begin until sometime during the second quarter of 2015.

With mass production purportedly slated to get underway soon, it's not all that surprising that we're starting to see a steady uptick in the number of iPad Pro related leaks.

Accessory makers plan to tap Apple Watch’s hidden port for battery straps, faster charging [feedly]

Accessory makers plan to tap Apple Watch's hidden port for battery straps, faster charging
// 9to5Mac

Reserve-Strap

One of the first companies to announce plans to make a battery strap for Apple Watch— allowing you to charge the device while on the go while continuing to wear it— has confirmed plans to tap into Apple Watch's hidden port to charge the device and offer faster charging.

Apple utilizes a magnetic, inductive charging solution to charge Apple Watch, but a wired connection to the device's hidden 6 pin port will make designing battery straps much easier, according to maker of the upcoming Reserve Strap accessory, and even allow for faster more efficient charging compared to Apple's own solution.

Reserve-Strap-02While the company initially planned on using a magnetic, wireless charging solution like Apple's, after getting hands on with the Apple Watch confirmed that the hidden port will be a better option:

Our engineers have been able to independently confirm that the 6 pin diagnostic port underneath the Apple Watch case can be used for charging. The Reserve Strap will take advantage of this using a simple, retractable connector instead of the previous inductive charging cradle design… By utilizing this port instead of wirelessly charging, we've been able to achieve a higher charge capacity and quicker, more efficient charging times while also improving durability and eliminating any interference with Apple Watch functionality including taptic feedback and heartrate sensors.

The port, hidden inside of the slot where one side of the Watch's strap connects to the device, is covered, but Reserve Strap will provide a tool to access it. Some speculated Apple included the port for diagnostics by retail employees— it didn't, diagnostics are done through a connected iPhone— but Apple could have included the port for getting software on to Apple Watch at the factory and or for developer use.

In theory, Reserve Strap's discovery means other accessory makers could create charging solutions and other smart accessories using the port to offer faster charging and other features that aren't possible without it. It certainly helped improve the planned design for Reserve Strap in addition to the enhanced charging…

Here's a look at the Reserve Straps new design (left) compared to its old design that would have relied on Apple's wireless charging solution (right):

Reserve Strap is up for preorder for $249, but specific availability info will come later.

Apple Watch How-To: Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone [feedly]

----
Apple Watch How-To: Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone
// 9to5Mac

sleeve11

When the Apple Watch first launched, we showed you in detail how to pair and set-up the device with your iPhone. Now, we're going to show you how to unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone. There are several reasons one might want to unpair the two devices…

The process could be a troubleshooting step for users who are experiencing connectivity issues between their Apple Watch and iPhone. The unpairing process could also be useful when selling your Apple Watch or returning it to Apple.

The first step in the unpairing process is to ensure that your Apple Watch and iPhone are close enough together to be connected. Then, you'll want to open the Apple Watch App on your iPhone.

From there, tap "My Watch" tap at the bottom of the interface, then choose the "Apple Watch" panel, as shown in the screenshots above. Then tap the "Unpair Apple Watch" button. The app will ask you to confirm that you wish to unpair the two devices, which will erase all content and settings from the Watch. Your iPhone, however, will make a backup of your Apple Watch before completing the unpairing process. You'll later be able to restore that backup to a new Apple Watch if you desire.

If you wish to unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone directly from your wrist as opposed to using the app, you can do so by heading into the Settings app, then choosing General, Reset, and Erase all Content and Settings.

Once the process is complete, you can pair and setup Apple Watch with your iPhone again using these steps.

This is what new Star Wars droid BB-8 would look like in space gray [feedly]

With its roly-poly looks and infectious personality, new droid BB-8 looks primed to be a real scene-stealer when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters at the end of the year.

And now we know what the ballsy little bot would look like if Jony Ive replaced its orange-and-white color scheme with something a little more subtle.

The iDroid concept art comes from forward-looking designer Martin Hajek, who has produced tons of Apple-inspired concept art in the past (including an Apple-ized lightsaber).

Writes Hajek on his blog unveiling his new BB-8 renders:

Introducing: iBB-A
With built in projector and circular touch-screen interface, it will be available in silver, gold and (of course) space-grey!

Want to have a go at designing your own droid? You can download the super-detailed 3D model of the BB-8.

While director J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens won't premiere till December 18, the movie's lovable new droid is already a fan favorite. There's even a DIY project for making your own iPhone-controlled BB-8 model.

Now Hajek has shown how Apple design chief Jony Ive's stylistic influences — which really did help shape The Force Awakens' spitty new lightsaber — might look on sci-fi's peppiest new droid.

As usual, Hajek makes his 3-D model available (for a price).

So, if you were in the market to buy a used BB-8 from some nasty little Jawas, which model would you get? Old-school orange-and-white? Or Apple-tastic silver, gold or space gray?

Ask: How to Switch to a New Apple ID (and Keep All Your Purchases) [feedly]

----
Ask: How to Switch to a New Apple ID (and Keep All Your Purchases)
// MacLife

Have an Apple, Mac, or iOS tech question? We've got the answer. This time, we'll show you how to update your Apple ID to a new email address but still keep all the purchases and history associated with it — plus, if you want, how to transfer your old ID's email to a new user.

Question

Ever since I got my iPhone back in 2008, I've been using my wife's email address as my Apple ID. Now my wife has her own iPhone and naturally wants her own account using her email address. How can I fix this so that all of my data is under my email account, and then set her up with a new Apple ID?

Answer

There's an easy way to fix this using the Apple ID manager website. First, you'll need to change your account so that it uses your email address instead of your wife's. To do this, head over to appleid.apple.com in a web browser, click the Manage your Apple ID button, and sign in with your existing account.

Select the sidebar item labeled "Name, ID and Email Addresses," then select the Edit button next to the "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" field. Here, you will be able to change the primary email address that is associated with your Apple ID. When the changes are saved, you will be able to log back into all of your devices using this new email account.

Just click that Edit button near the "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" field and you'll be able to change your Apple ID. Easy, huh?

Next, log out of appleid.apple.com, then head back to the main page of that site, where you'll see the option to "Create an Apple ID." Click it to go through the process required to set up a new Apple ID for your wife's account.

After everything has been completed, you will have your account with a new ID (and all of your saved items), plus a new, clean account that your wife can use on her devices.
