John Sculley blames self for near death of Apple, Limera1n jailbreak lands for Mac, iPhone for Veriz

Apple may be a behemoth in the technology world today, but back during the time of John Sculley in the early 90's Apple very nearly went under before Steve Jobs came back and saved the day. Sculley has given an interview and takes the near death of Apple firmly on his shoulders and he talks other things as well.

Mac users looking to jailbreak their iPhone can now get the limera1n jailbreak by geohot. The jailbreak first landed on the 10th, but was only for PCs.

Another day, another prediction for the Verizon iPhone starts making its rounds. An analyst is predicting that the Verizon iPhone will land in March of 2011.

iPhone 5 to support portable computing using NFC

A new report from Cult of Mac suggests that Apple may have some nifty new features in store for the upcoming iPhone 5. Rumors that the iPhone 5 will utilize NFC are nothing new at this point, but this morning's claims cover a very unique feature for the underutilized technology. The report suggests that the iPhone 5 will include a new portable computing function, allowing users to store data and settings from Mac computers on their iPhones. When a handset is waved near any other compatible NFC-equipped Mac computer, the user's "applications, settings and data" will become available on the computer. "It will be as though they are sitting at their own machine at home or work," the report states. In short, the feature would provide a new type of remote computing that could eliminate the need for virtual network computing (VNC) or similar technologies. This new feature is anything but confirmed for the time being, but it certainly would be a welcome addition for Mac users. What's more, it might help give customers with aging Mac computers an extra push to upgrade to newer NFC-enabled machines.

Audi Honors 30 Years Of quattro With Q30 Concept

Hard to believe, but Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system has been with us for thirty years. I remember lusting after the first generation of Audi Coupe quattro, and thinking that I'd someday park one in my garage. When I finally did have enough money to buy one (before the U.S. economy went into meltdown), Audi's styling just didn't do it for me. Gone were the sleek and edgy (for the time, at least) lines of the original Coupe quattro, replaced by a boring but competent sedan. If only, I thought, Audi would go back and build a modern interpretation of the original Ur-quattro.

Ask and ye shall receive, as Audi has done just that to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the quattro all wheel drive system. Shown at this week's Paris Auto Show, the Q30 concept sports a turbocharged five cylinder motor, good for a claimed 408 horsepower. The body uses aluminum panels to reduce weight, so the entire car tips the scales at just under 2,900 pounds. Audi claims a 0 to 100 kph time of just 3.9 seconds, and the Q30 uses carbon ceramic discs with six piston calipers to provide tear-your-glasses-off-your-face stopping power.

Like my bank account these days, the Q30 remains just an intangible concept, a tribute to better days that may yet come around again. I certainly hope so, since this is one Audi that I wouldn't mind parking in the garage. Build it, I say, and the quattro loyalists will come.

2010 Cadillac SRX recalled over power steering lines

General Motors has announced a voluntary recall of the 2010 Cadillac SRX luxury CUV over concerns of possible damaged power steering lines. The recall affects 3,996 units, and of those GM believes only two or three are actually affected by this issue. If the power steering lines in question are damaged, they could leak steering fluid onto the engine and start a fire, which has actually happened in at least one case. VW Group design chief Walter de'Silva reskins the Leica M9

Walter de'Silva has worked his magic on countless Alfa Romeos, Seats, Audis and now, as head of design for the entire Volkswagen Group, is responsible for styling even more brands and their products than just about anyone in the industry. But he can now add one more to his resume: a Leica camera.

The iconic German optics company brought de'Silva in to give its compact M9 camera a bit of a make-over. Rising to the task, de'Silva refitted the camera in titanium, gave its screen a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, trimmed it in Nappa leather, a diamond-texture surface and even reworked Leica's famous logo, centering it above the lens like a hood ornament. A gun-holster-like shoulder harness completes the package as de'Silva follows in the footsteps of fellow car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who designed for Canon and whose ItalDesign studio de'Silva's employers recently acquired.

Only 500 examples of the limited-edition, de'Silva-designed Leica M9 Titanium will be produced, fetching a suitably car-like $31,300 apiece. Zoom in on the images in the gallery below for a closer look.
