This is the wireless, illuminated speaker that installs as easily as a light bulb. It fits unobtrusively within a recessed can light receptacle, replacing a standard light bulb, for discreet audio and lighting. Providing crisp audio, the full-range, 10-watt speaker receives interference-free wireless audio signals from up to 50′ away from its transmitter, which docks with any iPod/iPhone equipped with a 30-pin connector.

The speaker has integrated LEDs that provide bright light similar to a 60-watt light bulb. The included remote controls volume, play/pause, and light dimming to 50% of brightness. Transmitter has an auxiliary port for connecting other audio inputs. Includes two speakers; supports a total of eight speakers.

Gmail accidentally resetting accounts, years of correspondence vanish into the cloud?

If you've got a working Gmail account, you might want to back it up every so often -- as many as 500,000 Gmail users lost access to their inboxes this morn, and some of them are reporting (via Twitter and support forums) that years worth of messages, attachments and Google Chat logs had vanished by the time they were finally able to log on. While we haven't experienced the issue personally, we're hearing that the bug effectively reset some accounts, treating their owners as new users complete with welcome messages. For its part, Google says that the issue "affects less than .29% of the Google Mail userbase," engineers are working to fix the issue right now, and that missing messages will be restored as soon as possible. We'll soon see if this is a momentary setback... or a lengthy wakeup call.

Chinese designer makes Megatron tank a steel-toothed reality

It doesn't move and it certainly doesn't transform, but we're still not sure we'd stand anywhere near this jagged metal contraption ripped right out of the silver screen. The giant Megatron tank replica from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen not only looks like it'd grind us up like so much beef beneath its spiky treads, it reportedly weighs five tons and stands eight feet tall. It's allegedly constructed entirely out of scrap metal by a designer known as "Steel Legend" -- a honorific that we imagine few will dare question now. If only it could take on junkyard Optimus Prime in a Beijing Battle Royale. More pics of the tank at our source links below!

FaceTime now in the Mac App Store, 720p video calling

Along with the launch of its new MacBook Pros, which include FaceTime HD cameras, Apple has released an updated version of its FaceTime application. The new FaceTime for Mac lets you send and receive 720p HD video calls on supported Intel Macs. The standard iSight cameras on previous Mac hardware deliver VGA-quality calls, while the new MacBook Pro 2011 line is capable of 720p HD video. All hardware that meets the minimum specs can receive HD calls through this updated application. The app will be bundled with the new MacBook Pros and is available as a 99-cent upgrade for owners of previous generation hardware.

iPod nano updated, control music using Sleep/Wake button

The iPod nano software has been updated to allow users to control their music with the Sleep/Wake button. Specifically, there are two options: you can set the Sleep/Wake button to either skip to the next track or pause/play the current track with a double-click. Once the update is installed, you'll find the option by tapping Settings, then Music and finally Sleep/Wake button.

Additionally, this update will let you turn the nano off completely. To do so, simply hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds. Note that if you turn the nano back on within 5 minutes, it will remember the most recent playlist and what was playing. What a smart little device.

You'll find the the update by connecting your iPod nano to iTunes. Have fun!

First Hong Kong Apple Store to open this year

The South China Morning Post reports that Apple will open its first retail store in Hong Kong later this year. The International Finance Center (IFC) Mall in the central district of Hong Kong Island will host the new 15,000 square foot location. A second Hong Kong Apple store, a 20,000 square foot shop in Hysan Place in Causeway Bay, is planned for 2012.

According to the Morning Post, Apple negotiated a 10-year lease for the retail space in the IFC mall. The company will spend an estimated US$20 million to construct its first store in Hong Kong and up to $9.2 million a year on rent. An Apple spokesperson told the Morning Post the IFC store "will be similar" to Apple's high-profile retail locations in London, Paris, and Shanghai.

Located near two office towers and a soon-to-open Four Seasons Hotel, The IFC mall houses approximately 200 shops representing about 100 different international brands. Hong Kong is home to about 7 million people and hosts approximately 32 million tourists a year.

Apple opened its first store in China in July, 2008. The four locations in China -- two in Beijing and two in Shanghai -- each receive over 40,000 visitors a day, says Ron Johnson, senior vice president of retail operations for Apple. That is four times the traffic to Apple's stores in the rest of the world. The company plans to open a total of 20 new stores in China this year.

Apple has 323 retail stores worldwide.

MLB At Bat 11 apps for iPhone, iPad now available

With the wintry weather that seems to be hitting a lot of the U.S. today, most people probably aren't thinking about the start of the 2011 Major League Baseball season. There are two sure signs of spring today -- the MLB players started playing Spring Training exhibition games today, and the MLB At Bat 11 apps for iPhone/iPod touch and iPad are now available for sale in the App Store.

At this point you'll be able to watch about 150 Spring Training games through a free preview of MLB.TV, and listen to available radio broadcasts of Spring Training games. Like the 2010 version of the app, you can get a close-up batter's view of every at-bat, breaking news, schedules, rosters, and players stats. The description of the app notes that additional features and functionality will be released for Opening Day on March 31.

Major League Baseball apparently didn't listen to user complaints from last year, however. The iPad and iPhone apps are still separate apps, and each costs $14.99. On top of that insult, the league advertises in articles found in the app. Once the MLB season begins, you'll be able to watch one free televised game per day and listen to as many games on Internet radio as you'd like, but there's no way to purchase a package to watch all games for a specific team in the app or beam the games to an Apple TV via AirPlay.

Early reviews on the App Store are saying that the performance of the MLB At Bat 11 app does seem to have improved over last year's iteration, which was notable for slow loading of articles and videos.

iTunes could get cloud-based backup solution

Late last year I predicted 2011 would be the year of the cloud for Apple, and so far I've been right. I said OS X Lion would be sold via the App Store, and it certainly will. Here's the other part of Apple's cloud strategy: the company is reportedly looking to use the cloud for iTunes, not as a streaming service, but as "insurance," a sort of backup system for the music you already own and have downloaded to your own computer. Specifics are vague; it's not clear how much this would cost or exactly how this would work, and obviously Apple is keeping it all under wraps until it's ready to announce the service completely.

The signs are there: MobileMe is reportedly going online-only, the North Carolina data center is about to come online, and Apple seems primed to introduce a service which would connect your media (and possibly even your contacts and other downloads) across all of your iOS and Mac devices, accessible from any device wherever you happen to have it. I'd bet such a service will be online by the end of this year. We'll have to see what comes of this, but we certainly seem closer than ever to Apple introducing some connection to the cloud in iTunes.

How to Creatively Update your Bathroom on a Budget

If you are getting tired of your outdated bathroom and it's time for an update, what are you waiting for? If its money you say, join the rest of home owners that struggle to make needed or wanted updates to their bathroom because of budget constraints. While being on a budget for you may mean only changing out the plumbing fixtures, while to someone else  it may mean only adding paint to the walls. Whichever is your scenario there are easy ways to update your bathroom, follow these tips.

• Modernize with color: Depending on how much you can afford, adding modern colors to your bathroom can be the difference between a bathroom you enjoy to wake up to, and one that you rush out of in the morning! For a natural and Zen inspired bathroom use colors inspired by nature: browns, greens, blues, and beiges will instantly update your surroundings. Whether it's through paint color, wall paper, finishes, or bath linens, modernize instantly with a pleasing color palette.
• Do it yourself projects: If you are handy with do it yourself projects, a bathroom update may not be as expensive as you think. Consider installing beadboard paneling on your walls for a cottage interior feeling. Changing out plumbing fixtures to modern ones in your bathtub/shower and sink area is relatively simple, and can update the look of your entire sink or bathing area. If you have a favorite home improvement store, check to see if they have any do it yourself workshops. Many stores will feature a DIY project regularly, and many of them will arm you with the knowledge to update your bathroom.

• Restore the classics: Assess the reason why you are updating your bathroom. If you are updating your bathroom because of old looking and malfunctioning amenities, then replacing with new is your best option. While, if you have a classic claw foot tub that is starting to discolor from age, there are many restoration techniques you can do to restore it. Between the internet, blogs, and design television programs, you are bound to find resources to help you update your classic bathroom to a functional and beautiful state. Remember, updating doesn't have to always mean brand new, it may mean restoring the old to work beautifully.

• Update your bathroom in phases: While we all would like to update an outdated bathroom within a weekend, the reality of your budget and time may not be realistic for this to happen. Consider saving money by remodeling or updating your bathroom in phases. For example, removing old ceramic tile, and replacing it on a bathroom wall may be a weekend project. A few weeks later consider repainting, and so on. Often times the reality of an expensive update seems more expensive if you want to accomplish at one time. Make a plan and focus on the long term goal to keep your finances in check.

Updating your bathroom is a closer reality than you thought, without having to spend 2 or 3 paychecks to do so. Analyze your bathroom and determine what needs to be updated, and what your wish list items are.  Tackle the needs first and plan out a timeline and a budget. You will be happier that you did, and so will your pocket. Seek inspiration and advice from those that have updated their bathrooms before to steer away from common mistakes and problems. In no time you will be enjoying your bathroom once again!
