Angry Birds: Star Wars Coming to iOS, Android on November 8

Star Wars creator George Lucas has retired from the film business, but it appears his licensing department is still very much open for business, joining forces with Angry Birds creator Rovio for new apps and even board games coming soon.

TechCrunch is reporting that Angry Birds: Star Wars will be hitting iOS and Android on November 8, which will find the familiar red bird assuming the role of Jedi hero Luke Skywalker.

Needless to say, other characters from the Star Wars universe will join the red bird in their fight against the Empire, who -- wait for it -- are the evil pigs in this case. The game will also feature familiar locations from the films, as well as music and sound effects licensed from the Lucas empire.

The mashup between the wildly-successful Rovio game and the cinematic sci-fi classic is sure to further inflame die-hard Star Wars fans, but read on… it gets worse.

Rovio will precede the mobile game apps with "a series of board games and plush toys" heading exclusively to Toys R Us, and a series of large plush costumes will also be available just in time for the Halloween season.

As silly as it all sounds, that Angry Birds: Star Wars "Early Angry Birds Package" aping the original Star Wars action figure Early Bird Certificate Package actually ticked our inner child just a little bit. (Yes, we were old enough to have actually purchased that back in 1977. Now get off our lawn, kids!)
