China Moves Past U.S. in Smartphone and Tablet Usage

Given the massive population size of China, it probably comes as no surprise that the Asian nation has passed the United States in mobile device usage. According to a new report, the U.S. has fallen to a close second in the "smart device" market, with a focus on Android and iOS devices.

The research firm Flurry (via Apple Insider) has posted the results of recent data, showing China has finally made it to the top of the mobile device market. Flurry has tracked the race between the two superpowers for some time, revealing last year that China was well on its way to the leadership spot.

US vs China Smartphones and Tablets

Using 2.4 billion application sessions across more than 275,000 applications, China passed the United States with 246 million iOS and Android devices in February. The U.S., comparatively, has an estimated 230 million for the same period.

"Given that China has more than four times the population of the United States," says the blog post. "Flurry does not expect the U.S. to regain the lead in device activations."

Apple has doubled-down on the Chinese market recently, pushing the iPhone and iPad to impressive sales figures. CEO Tim Cook has also spent a decent amount of time recently visiting with Chinese officials.
