New Mac Mini Possibly Announced at October 23 Event
Well, it's Apple event rumor time again -- honestly, it's always that time -- but the latest talking point in a slew of alleged October announcements is the Mac mini refresh. After a few indications that Apple may in fact release a new and improved Mac mini, this rumor could hold some (tiny) weight.
Just this morning, we passed along word from "reliable sources" that a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display will appear at an as-yet-unannounced Apple event on October 23. And in accordance with ongoing rumors, the mythical iPad Mini is said to share the same stage.
But 9to5Mac isn't done slinging the scuttlebutt just yet; a revamped Mac mini may appear at the October 23 conference, sporting improved chipsets and other new features.
Of course, a new Mac mini isn't exactly a surprise. Recently, we've reported on stories of dwindling supplies of current models -- a sure sign of an impending hardware update. Moreover, the Mac mini is plenty due for a freshening up. Apple released the unibody design back in 2010, and the last hardware upgrade -- in terms of chipsets -- was July 2011.
According to the sources, Apple will reveal three models of the new Mac mini: two traditional models with varying storage space and processor speeds, and an OS X Server configuration. The new devices are allegedly available for shipping right after the October 23 reveal.
Obviously, there's no confirmation from Apple at this point, but it's a safe assumption the new Mac minis will add Ivy Bridge chipsets. But hey, if you're still in the market for a current model, we know where to grab one for a song.
