Logitech Introduces Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam for Mac

There's little doubt that we live in a wireless world, so it's always nice to see formerly corded accessories gain a little more mobility by cutting the wires. The latest to do so is the webcam, thanks to a new offering from Logitech.

Logitech has announced a new way to stream and create videos with the Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam. Aimed primarily at video professionals, bloggers and hobbyists, the wireless webcam offers the flexibility to do live streaming as well as shooting videos from two different angles as well as video chatting on your Mac.

Live video can be streamed from the Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam to websites such as Ustream, will full control and preview of your content from either a Mac or iOS app. Logitech's webcam can even be set up to act as a second video camera on your computer, offering an additional view that goes beyond the FaceTime camera on your Mac.

"The Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam lets you stream and record like a pro," said Mike Culver, vice president of brand development for consumer computing platforms at Logitech. "It helps you make the most out of your existing Mac OS and iOS video setup for more dynamic live streaming, recording and video chatting. It goes where a built-in webcam can't, and with one press of a button, it's easy to switch between your built-in webcam and the Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam, so your friends and audience can enjoy a standard view or move around the room with you."

The Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam requires OS X Lion or later and features 720p HD video capture with a 3x digital zoom as well as digital pan and tilt, built-in mono microphone with support for an external mic and two-hour battery life. The tripod-ready webcam uses H.264 video compression and even features a built-in illumination lamp.

Compatible with a wide range of applications ranging from QuickTime, Photo Booth, iMovie and Final Cut Pro as well as FaceTime, iChat and Skype, the Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam will be available this month in the U.S. and Europe for $199 SRP.
