There's no doubt that Apple is on an absolute rampage when it comes to building new retail locations around the world, and is now going back to revisit its glass-domed New York City flagship location -- which is why a proposal for a new glass-covered store on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California has piqued the interest of Apple rumor mills.
MacRumors is reporting that someone has proposed a new Apple Store on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California -- or at least, that's about the only thing it could be, based on conceptual sketches presented to the Santa Monica Planning Commission. Apple isn't listed on the proposal, which will be presented Wednesday night, and Cupertino already has a location just down the street -- but that clearly hasn't stopped them from setting up shop with a second location in nearby Glendale, California.
"The proposed one-story, 34-foot high commercial building will feature an expansive floor-to-ceiling height accentuated by a transparent glass ceiling," the original report from Curbed reveals. "'The front façade will consist entirely of transparent glass panels that will project five feet from stone paneled side walls.' Designs will have to be run by the city's Architectural Review Board before they're final."

No retailer is listed on the proposal for the former three-story Borders location, with the owner listed as ASB/Blatteis Promenade Holdings, LLC, who purchased the storefront in September, 2010. Whoever the mystery retailer might be, they've got an Apple flair -- not to mention an environmentally friendly approach.
"The applicant will offer all full-time retail employees a $100 monthly transit subsidy towards the purchase of transit fare and a $20 per month bicycle reimbursement subsidy for improvements, maintenance, and service," the filing reveals. "In addition, secure bicycle parking for employees of the building will be located in the basement level."
A company shrouded in mystery who's obsessed with glass and environmentally friendly transportation? Sounds like someone we might know…
